To put all your eggs in one basket is to risk losing everything all at one time (hence the irony of the above joke)

EXAMPLES:

- Try to be a safe investor and never put all your eggs in one basket. If you put them all in the same basket then you risk losing everything if you drop it!

-We know you want to be a famous actor son but you should still graduate from college and not put all your eggs in one basket!!
